Centrum Jana Pawła II

About the Centre

The John Paul II Centre has been in operation since 2006, when Abp Jóżef Życiński founded it as a votive gift for John Paul II’s pontificate in order to strengthen the link connecting him and his works with the Lublin Church. In 2010 we became a public benefit organization (entitling us to receive 1% of income tax from individuals in Poland). In April 2012, when our Statues had been changed, we started implementing our current programme.

Our agenda centres around three major facilities: Facility of Spirituality and Religious Dialogue, John Paul II Facility of Culture and Facility of Medical Counselling.

As far as the Facility of Spirituality and Religious Dialogue is concerned, we focus on promoting the cult of the Blessed John Paul II, as well as his thought, in particular his involvement in interdenominational and interreligious dialogue. Since 2009 a chaplaincy centre has been under construction by the Blessed John Paul II Parish. For two consecutive years – 2012 and 2013 – we have been in charge of the Papal Days in the Lublin Archdiocese, during which we cooperated in arranging a number of religious and cultural events. We are also supporters of an international conference the Lublin Days of Personalism devoted the person and personalism in the thought of Karol Wojtyła/John Paul II, which is set to take place on October 24-25 at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, where Karol Wojtyła used to lecture for almost 25 years. During the conference in question a number of professors from Spain, Italy, Mexico, Peru and Denmark will deliver speeches. Poland will be represented by distinctive members of academic centres from Lublin, Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Łódź and Białystok. In 2011 we set off a cycle of lectures for teenagers, called the Papal Youth Academy, whose aim was to acquaint the young with John Paul II’s teachings. We also created a database of priest who can organise one-off lectures as part of Papal Academies. We collaborate with other centres devoted to John Paul II, e.g. “Dzieło Nowego Tysiąclecia” Foundation. We are also planning to arrange retreats, pilgrimages and language courses.

Thanks to the time we have spent with our scholarship holders, we have noticed the need to create the Blessed John Paul II Facility of Culture. Our major project in this area in the coordination of the Abp Józef Życiński Scholarship Fund “Witnesses of God’s Beauty”, which has been functioning since 2012. During its first edition, help was given to 131 talented students from families in difficult financial situation. In the school/academic year 2012/2013 scholarships were granted to 86 people, whereas in the ongoing enrollment 65 holders will be selected. The John Paul II Centre shows its interest in problems of Christian families by participating in the March for Life and managing family picnics accompanied with concerts. Moreover, we activate young people by volunteer work, thanks to which they can obtain both spiritual and professional experience. We are involved in a lot of musical events. On October 16, 2012 we organised a concert of 11 school choirs and a symphonic orchestra of the Musical School of 1st and 2nd Degree in Lublin under the title of “The Young’s Tribute to John Paul II”. We co-created two editions of the Lublin Festival of Parish Choirs in 2012 and 2013. The fruit of its second edition was the release of an album entitled “Gorzkie żale” (“Lenten Lamentations”). The next stages of our work in the realm of education are publishing and international exchanges.

We have a lot of plans concerning the Facility of Medical Counselling. Currently we focus on the Naprotechnology project – promoting a way of treating infertility in accordance with Catholic spirit. We intend to give psychological help to people in such need.
